Great Fire
In the wake of the Great White tragedy I was forced to contemplate my own heavy metal concert past. My boy Steve Reynolds used to drag me to the Backroom in Austin to see all sorts of spare and fringe groups. I'm glad none of them cost me my life. "watch this blazin' solo dude' as some hair God made love to a hot pink Les Paul.
Seen but not dug by me;

I didn't like any of them, and I didn't own any of their stuff. I just went cause Steve was my only friend who could go out every single night of the week. That and there were lots of metal chicks there.
Anyway glad I didn't die in a fiery rock accident at least not yet. Hey watch this blazin' solo...

One of the greater aspects to the Steve Reynolds/Back Room vortex is that Steve actually completed the circle by making it on stage at the Backroom as the drummer for the vaunted speed-metal group Speed Queen. Kudos to Steve --- I've never made it on stage, even as a stage diver. Did you ever see SQ? I didn't, but should have. That would have been a nice one for the memory banks.
Never saw them, that might have been during our brief falling out period (creative differences) but it soon passed. Live and let rock I say.
Here are some bands I saw on purpose, and some of these I even paid to see: Saxon, Armoured Saint, Michael Monroe, George Lynch Project, Iron Maiden, Ronnie James Dio, Wasp, Whitesnake, Great White (at Six Flags!) and too many more to name. Thanks to Rob Minter for making me buy The Queen is Dead and something by Level 42 and changing my path.
Michael Monroe let's see was that on the Roger and me tour?-Dumb metal guy
Ok ok. I'll fess up to the metal and semi-metal shows I've seen. The more embarrasing ones include: The Michael Schenker Group; Blue Oyster Cult (a concert which included a drum solo *and* a very confusing bass solo); Ted Nugent; Aldo Nova; Ozzy Osborne (at a Texxas Jam); and Dokken, because they rhyme with Rokken. Oddly enough, I'd see every one of these bands again. If only I'd kept the half sleeve concert T-shirts I bought at each of these shows. Back then they were a neccesity to *prove* to your fellow high school students that you'd actually seen Aldo Nova. Today, I'd make a small fortune selling them on Ebay.
I thank you all for your courage. So we went to a few metal shows, nothing wrong with that. Tara do you remember fondly watching the Wall on VHS at Whitney's house, and laughing about More cigarettes. "no I said get me some more cigarettes, not get me some More brand cigaretees..bah haha ha snort
I will never forget it, slap-happy Rob.
PS. I had a Michael Schenker Group album. And I saw Krokus more than once.
